1. Which course do I enroll in?
a. If you have no experience or less than 6 months and 500 miles RECENT riding experience, or have never taken the BRC and would like the full classroom safety instruction, enroll in the BRC.
b. You may enroll in the ERC once you have 6 months and at least 500 miles of RECENT riding experience.
c. The ERC may be taken as a refresher riding course every two years.

2. What motorcycle do I ride in the class?
a. Each student must provide his/her own motorcycle for purposes of taking the class.
b. Students without the M endorsement taking the BRC: The motorcycle must meet the criteria outlined in either condition 1 or 2 of item 3 below.
c. In the case of condition 2, the rider must make arrangements with the Rider-Coach for early class arrival and demonstration.
d. Motorcycles may be trailered or ridden to the class by another licensed rider as long as conditions 1 or 2 are met.

3. What if I have no motorcycle experience at all?
You should enroll in the BRC and your motorcycle must meet one of the following two conditions:

1. Condition 1 (recommended): The motorcycle must meet two of the following three criteria:
a. Engine displacement of 500cc or less
b. Unladen weight of 400 pounds or less
c. Seat height of 30” or less

2. Condition 2: The rider must demonstrate to the Rider-Coaches, prior to class start:
a. Ability to mount and physically control the size of the motorcycle.
b. Ability to start and stop safely.
c. Ability to shift gears.
d. Ability to safely negotiate simple turns and maneuvers.

4. Can I ride my scooter in the class?
a. Yes
b. Slightly different range exercise conditions may apply.

5. Will my motorcycle be inspected prior to class start?
a. Motorcycles must pass a MSF T-CLOCS safety inspection by the Rider-Coaches prior to class start
b. Rider must provide valid proof of insurance

6. What are the PPE requirements for the course?
a. DOT approved helmet
b. Long sleeve shirt or jacket
c. Long, non flare denim pants or material of equivalent or better durability
d. Full fingered gloves
e. Over the ankle leather boots
f. Approved eye protection consisting of one of the following: helmet face shield, motorcycle safety goggles or approved safety glasses
g. Rain gear (optional) in case of inclement weather. Range exercises will not be conducted during thunderstorms, high winds, snow or ice. However the class will continue in the rain.

7. What if I don’t pass the written or riding evaluation?
a. A MSF card will not be presented until successful completion of both the written and riding evaluations in accordance with DODI 6055.4 para. E3.2.3.1.
b. In the event of failure on the written examination, a Rider-Coach will meet with the student and make arrangements to re-test.
c. In the event of failure on the riding evaluation, a Rider-Coach will discuss with the rider items for practice prior to re-taking the course.
d. The rider may re-take the course in the next available class with an opening.

8. What qualifies an Oklahoma National Guard Rider Education Program Rider Coach to teach this course?
a. Each rider coach is certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) as an MSF Rider Coach.
b. Each rider coach has completed a 9 day course of training consisting of:
     i. Classroom instruction
     ii. Range instruction
     iii. Student teaching in the classroom
     iv. Student teaching on the range
     v. Final written examination on MSF policies and classroom and range instructional principles
     vi. Final practical examination by teaching a BRC to a group of beginning students
c. Each rider coach has taken and passed the BRC at a minimum

9. Will taking this course waive the riding evaluation at the DMV when getting my “M” endorsement?
a. Not at this time.
b. In order for the riding portion of the Oklahoma State “M” endorsement evaluation to be waived for this course the “Program” must be certified by the state of Oklahoma.
c. The Oklahoma National Guard Rider Education Program will seek state certification as soon as possible after establishment of the program. No time estimate for certification is available at this time.

10. Will taking either the BRC or the ERC allow me to operate my motorcycle or scooter on base and in compliance with DOD, Army and Air Force regulations?
a. Yes, successful completion of either the BRC or the ERC will meet this requirement under the conditions listed in items 1 and 7 above.

11. Do you offer the Sport Bike course or the ERC Co-Rider’s course?
a. Not at this time

12. How do I enroll in a class?
a. Check the schedule and pick two classes that fit your availability
b. Follow the registration link from the schedule page to fill out a class registration
c. You will be notified via email of successful registration in one of the classes of your choice or given instructions on selecting another class

13. Will I be in a military status while attending the class?
a. You must be in a military status to attend the course
b. More specific information is coming soon

14. I am an AGR, can take this course?
a. Yes

15. I am an Army or Air National Guard Technician. Can I take the course in technician status?
a. See item 13 above, you must be in a military status to attend this course

16. If I have already taken the BRC in the OKNG program can I take the ERC as well?
a. You may take the ERC one year after taking the BRC
b. We are currently working on the procedures and availability to provide refresher training

17. Will I still be in a paid military status if I take the course a second or third time as a refresher?
a. More information to come on refresher and continuing training

18. Can I take either the BRC or the ERC voluntarily in a non-military status?
a. See item 13 above, you must be in a military status to attend this course

19. Are my dependants eligible to take the class?
a. The course is only open to current members of the Oklahoma National Guard (Army & Air) at this time

20. I am an active duty service member. Am I eligible to enroll in your course?
a. Yes you may on a space available basis
